In preparation for a meeting at City Hall scheduled for July 14, we will be providing updates about the current status of the Rize proposal. As well, a separate development proposal for a 6-storey building at 235 Kingsway, due south of the Best Western Hotel, will also be reviewed. Find out how you can speak to at this important upcoming meeting.
The City of Vancouver and the developers held an Open House on April 14th and showed the latest incarnation of the Rize-Alliance Kingsway Properties tower proposal for the block bounded by Broadway, Kingsway, 10th Avenue, and Watson Street. RAMP will be presenting an analysis of their updated plans.
The now proposed 21-storey tower (up from 19) would have 258 condo units (up from 241) and 399 parking spaces (up from 320).
Little about the Rize does not go up!
The project had been scheduled to go before the Development Permit Board on Monday, July 14, reportedly as a condition of the rezoning (the meeting has been rescheduled from June 30th). The rezoning itself has not yet been enacted into law despite the 26 months that has lapsed since Council’s vote to approve the project in April 2012. The development cannot be built without an enactment of the CD-1 bylaw, hence Rize must go back to Council again for final approval. Find out how you can have your say and how this project still fails to fit with the community plan, let alone with City Council’s direction.
Public speakers will be heard at the Development Permit Board. Request to speak by sending an email to email@example.com. City staff are in the process of writing a report. Feedback to the city can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
There is information on the 6-storey development proposal at 235 Kingsway at the City’s website: http://former.vancouver.ca/devapps/235kingsway/index.htm
The City’s website has additional information on the Rize proposal here: http://former.vancouver.ca/devapps/285e10thave/index.htm. City staff have only provided a limited amount of information online, the planner assigned to the Rize is now David Autiero (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please note that the address for the Rize site is now officially 285 East 10th Avenue (formerly 228-246 East Broadway & 180 Kingsway) in what seems a pattern of confusing mid-course address changes.
There is an alternate option for accommodating growth in Mount Pleasant, all within low and mid-rise forms that ensure livability and affordability.
Come on out on Monday evening and join the discussion!
